People keep asking about joining BLVCKHELICOPTERS, so I’ll say this clearly:
I’m open to building a real IRL lineup around the project, but this is not an open jam band. BLVCKHELICOPTERS is an already established project with an existing identity, audience, sound, message, and direction.
This project is my life, and I’m protective of it. Anyone who threatens the stability, direction, message, or long-term integrity of the project will be asked to leave. That isn’t hostility, it’s self-preservation.
I also want to be transparent that while this may sound demanding, bringing people into an already successful project is a major risk for me too. The way I’ve been operating already works. The music, visuals, audience, and direction already exist. Opening the door to an IRL lineup means risking instability, creative conflict, ego clashes, dependency, drama, and dilution of the vision. So yes, my standards are intentionally high.
For context, this isn’t foreign territory for me either. I have prior experience as a vocalist, playing guitar and bass, playing live gigs, and booking shows. I understand the realities of building and maintaining a music project beyond just making songs online.
Creative direction and final decision-making remain with the founder to maintain consistency of the project’s identity.
This is ONLY for people serious enough to make this a major part of their life long term.
What I’m looking for:
• Must be over 21
• Must be within relocation distance of Carlsbad, NM or willing to move within 1-3 hours of it
• Must have a large amount of free time and genuine long-term dedication
• Must be reliable, punctual, communicative, and consistent
• Must learn by ear
• Must be willing and able to travel for rehearsals, shows, and future touring opportunities
• Experience with recording, production, mixing, visual art, etc. is a major bonus
• No serious substance addictions or self-destructive instability
• Must be emotionally mature and capable of handling stress/conflict without constant instability or interpersonal chaos
• Must have your own transportation
• Must already own your own gear
• Must be financially responsible for yourself
• Must not be buried in obligations outside of work/family responsibilities
• Must align with the anarchist/anti-authoritarian themes and message behind the project
• Must understand this is a collaborator role within an established project, not co-ownership of the identity itself
• IRL only. I’m not looking for online collaborators
The immediate focus would be tightening up and performing existing BLVCKHELICOPTERS material live. New collaborative material can come later once the lineup is proven stable and musically locked in.
Selected applicants will be asked to submit recordings/videos of themselves performing existing BLVCKHELICOPTERS material as part of the vetting process.
Any lineup formation would begin with a trial period to ensure musical, personal, and creative compatibility.
Depending on the situation, I’d also potentially be open to discussing some kind of band house/shared living setup to make things easier financially and creatively, but only if everyone involved is stable, responsible, and on the same page. People with kids should understand that changes the equation significantly and complicates that kind of arrangement.
Significant others are fine, but I’m not trying to build an environment where outside relationship drama dictates the direction or stability of the project.
I’m not interested in fake rebellion, trend-hopping, ideological tourists, meme band energy, party band culture, or people trying to redirect the message into something partisan, safer, or more commercially digestible.
This is the real deal to me. The goal is long-term artistic output, live performance, consistency, and growth. I’m looking for people invested in the message who can genuinely see this becoming a mainstay in their future.
Right now, the priority is building a tight core live lineup around existing material. Additional members and expanded instrumentation can come later once the foundation is stable.
I’m primarily looking for:
• Guitarist
• Bassist
• Drummer
Financially, I also want to be upfront and fair from the start: earnings from live shows and future releases that you actively perform or contribute to will be shared equally among participating members. However, all existing releases, merch, branding, streaming revenue, and anything created prior to someone joining remains mine.
The foundation for this project already exists. I’m only interested in people who genuinely connect with it and can contribute without ego conflicts or dependency.
This is an open-ended search, not a rush job. I’m not interested in forcing chemistry or assembling a lineup overnight just for the sake of saying there’s a band. If the right people take time to find, then they take time to find.
If you’re interested, contact me at blvckhelicopters@gmail.com. Include your experience, any music/projects you’ve played on, a short description of who you are, why you want to join, and anything else you think I should know about you.
If that sounds too strict, then this probably isn’t for you. If it sounds reasonable, reach out.
